Owning your faith is a subject that has struck my heart with great attention lately. As a Baptist, I certainly believe in the biblical principle, that if a person accepts Jesus as their Savior and Lord, they are forever saved. That is foundational to any certainty of heaven.
However, owning and cultivating one's faith is paramount to their sense of security as well.
Jesus taught us in the parable of the minas in Luke 19, that use is inexorably tied to ownership. The question that must be asked is this, "If we don't use and develop our faith, but merely put it in our pocket to save for later, or use it as our safe rabbit's foot for heaven, are we truly owning our faith?" Jesus' clear conclusion in this, and other parables like it, is that in order to know you're owning your faith, there must be clear, positive, action toward development and use. The man in the parable had it but didn't own it! And at the judgment, it was taken away from him.
Do you possess your faith, or own it?
Next week we will consider what it means to own your faith.
Godspeed,
Bro. Garry
