Owning Means Relational Discipline

One specific, that Jesus taught in His Sermon on ownership, and the first major step to owning our faith, is managing our thoughts concerning our relationships to others.

In Matthew 5:22, Jesus taught that not properly managing our disposition toward another human being, can be very dangerous, and if taken to the extreme, can land us in hell.

That means that a person who is an owner of his or her faith, is conscious of the importance of managing relationships, and that his or her outlook toward others, is to be taken very seriously.

A person who owns his faith, won’t disregard his relationship to his brother or sister, but will manage carefully his thoughts concerning them.

In v. 23, Jesus taught us that we should not attempt to worship God, or give an offering, without repairing our relationships to others.

“Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.”

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭5:23-24‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Owning your faith, means personal harmony with others. This is the first major discipline of a disciple of Christ.

Is there anyone you need to visit before your next act of worship?

Next week, we will consider Jesus’ teaching on management of our internal thoughts and desires.
