As We dive into the idea that Jesus wants us to own our faith, we need to recognize that He did not leave ownership to the imagination. There is definitely room for interpretation inside the information, but He explicitly outlined our task as owners of our faith, In the Sermon on the Mount.
The Sermon on the Mount is the Owner’s Manual.
Character is Jesus‘ introduction into ownership.
In Matthew 5, Jesus speaks to us about our Christian character, and mentions elements of our Christian character which are the features of true ownership of the faith.
An owner is poor in spirit, meek, pure in heart, and merciful. An owner is a mourner who recognizes his or her deep need for God. Owners are broken horses waiting instructions from their master.
Owners are bridled horses with their heads down.
If we don’t have this right, the rest of this Sermon cannot be lived out, because the rest of this Sermon will require the discipline of brokeness.
Is your head down, Christian?
Next week we will dive into the specifics of ownership.
